We are pleased to announce the publication of InM Working Paper No. 64, titled "Wealth Creation: Honesty, Power, and Social Responsibility in a Globalised World", authored by Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman of the Institute for Inclusive Finance and Development (InM).
This paper explores the complex dynamics of wealth accumulation in contemporary global and national contexts. While wealth generated through honest endeavor, innovation, skills, and hard work drives economic and social progress, the paper critically examines the darker side of wealth accumulation—such as corruption, illicit financial flows, widening inequalities, and environmental degradation.
Special focus is given to the socio-economic landscape of Bangladesh, addressing critical challenges including high non-performing loans (NPLs), tax evasion, income inequality, and the urgent need for a human-centred development paradigm.
Legitimacy of Wealth: Differentiates between honest entrepreneurial success and wealth acquired through the abuse of power, corruption, and unfair privileges.
Global & Local Realities: Discusses global wealth disparities—noting reports like the World Inequality Report 2026—alongside domestic challenges in Bangladesh such as poverty dynamics, tax-to-GDP ratios, and banking sector vulnerabilities.
Technology & Future: Analyzes the socio-economic implications of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Synthetic Intelligence (SI).
The Way Forward: Advocates for a human-centred economy where economic growth aligns with social justice, environmental integrity, and public accountability.
